UK imposes its largest sanctions package of the year against Russia.

The United Kingdom has announced the introduction of new sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex and Russia-backed mercenary groups. This marks the largest package of anti-Russian restrictions since May 2023. 

This information is detailed in a statement on the UK government’s website.

“The action taken today disrupts the supply of critical equipment for Putin’s military machine and curbs Russian malicious activities worldwide, exposing the corrupt practices of Russian military groups in Africa,” the statement reads.

Sanctions will be imposed on 56 individuals and entities.

It is noted that the new sanctions target suppliers that support Russian military production, as well as Russia-backed mercenary groups operating in Africa, south of the Sahara, and one Russian military intelligence agent involved in the use of the nerve agent “Novichok” in Salisbury.

The sanctions are directly aimed at restricting the supply of products for the Russian armed forces, including machinery, microelectronics, and drones.

They also target organizations in China, Turkey, and Central Asia that supply and manufacture goods, including machinery, microelectronics, and components for drones, which are necessary for Russia to sustain its illegal invasion of Ukraine.
