Steinmeier criticized Trump's policies, stating, "He undermines democracy and disregards established norms."

In his view, there is currently an "historically unprecedented concentration of power" in the hands of a small group of individuals in the United States.
Штайнмаєр раскритиковал политику Трампа: «Он подрывает демократию и игнорирует установленные правила».

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier believes that the policies of the new administration under American President Donald Trump are undermining the established rules in the democratic world and enabling a "small group" of businesspeople to do so.

He made this statement while speaking at the Munich Security Conference, as reported by Deutsche Welle.

Steinmeier accused the Trump administration of being impudent and violating established rules, partnerships, and trust.

“The new American administration has a different worldview than ours,” he said, agreeing that “we cannot change that,” but “we must accept it and we can deal with it.”

According to Steinmeier, Trump “ignores established rules, partnerships, and trust.” Therefore, the main task in the coming years will be to preserve the idea of the international community, he stated.

The president added that it is in the interest of the international community to ensure that the worldview of the Trump administration does not become dominant globally.

“The absence of rules should not become the principle for restructuring the world,” he declared.

Democracy is “not a business model” and not “a playground for destruction,” he emphasized.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier further noted that in the United States today, in his opinion, a “historically unprecedented concentration of technological, financial, and political power” is forming in the hands of a small group of individuals.

“As a democrat, I am very concerned when a small entrepreneurial elite has the power, resources, and desire to revise a significant part of the rules of democracy. And I am even more worried when some representatives of this elite do not hide their disdain for the institutions and norms of our democracy,” the president stressed.

At the Munich Security Conference, attendees included U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Trump’s special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

Background. As reported, in Munich, Keith Kellogg has already met with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, to discuss further U.S. assistance to Ukraine.

Remember, Zelensky spoke in Munich, emphasizing that he “does not want to be the president who helped Putin occupy Ukraine.” He also stated that he is currently not ready to sign a partnership memorandum with the U.S. regarding rare earth metals.
