"I don't want to be the president who helped Putin occupy Ukraine," Zelensky stated during his speech in Munich.

He also stated that he is currently not prepared to sign a partnership memorandum with the United States regarding rare earth metals.
«Я не хочу быть президентом, который помог Путину оккупировать Украину»: Зеленский выступил в Мюнхене.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that a peace agreement to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war cannot be signed in Munich, reports BBC.

“We all remember what was signed here,” said the president while speaking at the Munich Security Conference, which takes place on February 14-15. It is well known that the Munich Agreement of 1938 allowed Germany to annex the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia.

“I do not want to go down in history as the person who helped Putin occupy my country,” Zelensky noted in his speech.

He emphasized the necessity of Europe’s involvement in the peace negotiations.

Zelensky also commented on the memorandum of partnership with the U.S. regarding rare earth metals. Specifically, the President of Ukraine mentioned that the document is being reviewed by his team’s lawyers, who will then provide Washington with a revised version.

Zelensky added that he is ready to meet with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance at any moment while they are both in Munich, but is not yet prepared to sign the memorandum.

As Zelensky mentioned during his speech, during a phone call, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke about Putin's desire to end the war. In response, the President of Ukraine stated that he does not trust the Russian president and labeled him a liar.

Background. Recall that Zelensky stated he has no knowledge of a meeting with representatives from Russia at the Munich Security Conference. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned the possibility of such negotiations.

“I will meet with Putin, but only after a plan to end the war is ready,” Zelensky said. He noted that this plan must be agreed upon with both the U.S. president and Ukraine's European allies.
