The former CEO of the "Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine" has been charged with suspicion. The individual is currently abroad. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv police.
According to the investigation, in 2021, the monopolistic company that transports natural gas to consumers in Ukraine and EU countries, under the leadership of this official, earned a net profit of 20 billion UAH. Of this amount, 90% was supposed to be paid into the state budget as dividends.
As law enforcement officials found out, the former head of the "Gas Transmission Operator" decided not to distribute the income and not to direct the funds to the budget. The state suffered material losses amounting to over 18 billion UAH.
In September 2022, the supervisory board of the "Gas Transmission Operator" dismissed the offender due to unsatisfactory performance of the strategic enterprise. The police noted that he provided false information in the order regarding his official trip to Vienna and left Ukraine.
The suspect has been charged in absentia under part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (improper performance of official duties by a public official due to negligence, which caused severe consequences to the state interests protected by law) and under part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the preparation and issuance of knowingly false official documents by a public official, and the submission of knowingly false information in official documents).
The suspect faces up to five years of imprisonment.
It is worth noting that law enforcement did not disclose the name of the individual involved in the case. However, it is known that the "Gas Transmission Operator" was led by Serhiy Makohon from its establishment in 2019 until September 2022.
