Russia, during its invasion of Ukraine, violated fundamental principles of international relations. The speech by the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Sergey Lavrov, at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting resembles "testimony from a parallel universe."
This was stated by the Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, during the plenary session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Malta.
According to Eide, Russia has breached each of the principles outlined in the Helsinki Final Act and the United Nations (UN) Charter.
"Because, ladies and gentlemen, the number one rule in international relations is: do not invade and occupy other countries. You must respect sovereign equality. You must respect the territorial integrity of other states. This is exactly what Russia is not doing," the minister declared.
In the context of the aforementioned principles, Eide added that Lavrov's words sound like "testimony from a parallel universe."
Specifically, the Foreign Minister noted that Kyiv's allies support Ukraine in its struggle for independence, as well as the principles shared by all.
Let us recall that from December 4 to 5, the 31st annual meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council took place in Malta.
