The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized the need to enhance Europe’s defense capabilities.
She made this statement following a summit organized by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, reports SkyNews.
“We just heard a brief statement from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who participated in discussions with Sir Keir Starmer regarding the war in Ukraine in London. She insisted that we urgently need to “rearm Europe,” adding that the continent requires a “massive strengthening” and a “sharp increase in defense capabilities,” the report states.
Speaking to reporters at Lancaster House, von der Leyen said: “Member states need more fiscal space to increase defense spending. We want the U.S. to know that we are ready to defend democracy.”
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that to end the war in Ukraine, a leader capable of making agreements with both the U.S. and the Russians is necessary. If the motivations of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky diverge from this, then a problem arises.
