The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order that initiates the process of designating the group "Ansar Allah" (the Yemeni Houthis) as a terrorist organization.
The order is published on the White House website.
The document states that with the support of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps "Quds," the Houthis have fired upon U.S. Navy vessels dozens of times since 2023. Following the forceful takeover of most Yemeni settlements by the legitimate Yemeni government in 2014-2015, the Houthis conducted attacks on civilian infrastructure. This includes assaults on civilian airports in Saudi Arabia, attacks on the United Arab Emirates in January 2022, and launching over 300 projectiles at Israel since October 2023.
The Houthis have also attacked commercial vessels more than 100 times, resulting in the deaths of at least four civilian sailors and forcing some maritime commercial routes in the Red Sea to change.
"The activities of the Houthis pose a threat to the safety of the American civilian population and personnel in the Middle East, the security of our closest regional partners, and the stability of global maritime trade," the order states.
It is noted that within 30 days from the date of signing the order, the Secretary of State, after consulting with the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Treasury, must submit a report to the President regarding the designation of "Ansar Allah" as a foreign terrorist organization.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that in 2024, Yemeni Houthis attacked nearly 200 vessels, damaging over 40 of them. The costs to the global economy reached approximately $200 billion. These attacks are ongoing in 2025.
