The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. They discussed, among other things, the necessary steps to achieve a just peace and Europe's role at the negotiating table.
"A substantive conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about our common position on the ways to end the war and reliable security guarantees. I thanked him for Germany's contribution to saving thousands of lives, as well as for the leadership in strengthening Ukraine's air defense," Zelensky wrote.
He noted that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Germany's total assistance to Ukraine has reached 43.6 billion euros.
The Ukrainian president also informed Scholz about his meeting with the U.S. President's Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, and recent contacts with foreign leaders, including yesterday's conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"We discussed in detail the vision of the steps necessary to achieve a just peace, as well as Europe's role at the negotiating table," Zelensky added.
According to Sky News, Scholz supports Zelensky regarding Ukraine's role in peace negotiations.
"Ukraine must be at the table of any future peace negotiations," emphasized the German Chancellor.
Both leaders also "agreed that issues of European security should be discussed together with Europeans," and that "close coordination between Ukraine and its closest partners is necessary."
