As reported by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper, within the framework of the Victory Plan presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 16, 2024, Ukraine proposed to the EU and the USA to enter into agreements for investments in the extraction of uranium, titanium, and lithium.
At that time, the President stated that "Ukraine is home to natural resources, particularly critically important metals valued at trillions of US dollars. This includes uranium, titanium, lithium, graphite, and other strategically valuable resources that will strengthen either Russia and its allies or Ukraine and the democratic world in global competition."
The President of the USA, Donald Trump, agreed with Ukraine's proposal. This is reported by The Guardian.
Trump aims to negotiate an agreement for the supply of rare earth metals used in key electronic components in exchange for assistance.
The US President noted that he received notification from the Ukrainian side expressing readiness to conclude the relevant agreement, as reported by the AP.
"I want to ensure the security of rare earth elements. We are investing hundreds of billions of dollars. They have a lot of rare earth. And I want the security of rare earth elements, and they are ready to do it," Trump said.
As is known, Ukraine possesses reserves of non-ferrous and rare earth metals, including beryllium, zirconium, tantalum, as well as a complex of phosphorus rare earth and rare metal ores.
According to Forbes' assessment for 2023, the total value of minerals in Ukraine amounts to $15 trillion. Moreover, over 70% of the total value is concentrated in three regions—Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Luhansk.
