A private notary and three of her accomplices in Kyiv are set to be tried for defrauding the heirs of deceased residents out of more than 1 million hryvnias. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The capital's police indicate that the fraudulent scheme was organized by a 42-year-old private notary, who enlisted the help of two men and a woman aged between 40 and 43. According to the devised plan, the suspects obtained information from clients about the funds held in the bank accounts of their deceased relatives and then, using forged documents, transferred the inheritance to themselves.
According to the investigation, a woman approached the private notary of the Kyiv notarial district after her father passed away, seeking to claim her inheritance.
In turn, the notary received information from the bank indicating that there were over 850,000 hryvnias in the deceased's accounts but did not inform the heir about it. The notary told the woman that there was only 112 hryvnias in the account.
Subsequently, the notary and her accomplice found someone willing to illegally claim the inheritance by posing as the legitimate heir. Using forged documents, the perpetrators secured those 850,000 hryvnias.
In a similar manner, the suspect notary and her associates unlawfully obtained another 180,000 hryvnias from the inheritance of a different woman.
The indictment has been submitted for consideration to the Obolon District Court of Kyiv.
The accused have partially compensated the victims with 280,000 hryvnias.
The sanctions for the articles provide for a penalty of up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
