The Security Service of Ukraine has initiated a criminal investigation following the suicide of a teenager who was taken to Russia.

The Office of the Prosecutor General has announced the initiation of proceedings concerning information about the death of a Ukrainian teenager who was taken by Russians from the Kherson region.

“On December 24, information regarding the suicide of a Ukrainian teenager—a ward of a family-type home in Tokarevka, Kherson region, who was unlawfully transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation—was made public in the media,” the OGP stated.

In this regard, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that a criminal investigation has been opened into the commission of a war crime resulting in loss of life (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General will be conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
