The social network TikTok has ceased operations in the USA, less than two hours before the official ban was set to take effect.

CNN reports on this matter.

Approximately 170 million Americans used this social media platform.

Americans attempting to access the app encountered a message stating: “Sorry, TikTok is currently unavailable. A law banning TikTok has come into effect in the USA. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use TikTok at this time,” CNN writes.

According to their information, TikTok may not be gone for long. The company suggested that the social network could return soon – likely by Monday, January 20.

“We are fortunate that President Trump mentioned he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok as soon as he takes office. Please stay with us,” reads a message for users who opened the app.

CNN reports that the app has disappeared from Apple’s App Store as well as from Google Play.

Recall that on January 17, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously upheld the federal law banning TikTok starting January 19 – unless it is sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

Later, Donald Trump stated that he would “most likely” delay the ban on the TikTok social network in the USA for 90 days on the day of his inauguration, January 20.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that amid the possible ban of TikTok in the USA, its Chinese counterpart, RedNote, has gained many new users in recent days. Chinese state media actively supported the trend of American users transitioning from one app to another. For instance, the state broadcaster CCTV stated that TikTok users have found a “new home.”
