Later, the channel CNN, citing its own sources, reported that Trump instructed his aides to arrange a call with Vladimir Putin in the days following his inauguration.

Sources stated that the call is intended solely to discuss a face-to-face meeting in the coming months to attempt to halt the war in Ukraine.

It is noted that Trump and his team hope to quickly begin working on a resolution plan that could be implemented in the first months of his presidency – including through direct talks with Putin.

Officials from Trump’s national security team started preparing for the phone call with Putin several weeks ago. It remains unclear whether a date for the conversation has been finalized.
