Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have thwarted an assassination attempt on the First Deputy Minister of Health. As a result of comprehensive efforts, two individuals were detained – a 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman. This was reported by the National Police and the SBU.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that two residents of the Kyiv region had been monitoring the daily routine and movements of the official for several months, rented an apartment in the same residential complex, and frequently changed vehicles to avoid detection. Additionally, the couple regularly visited a shooting range to hone their shooting skills.

According to the SBU, the man and woman then began searching for a weapon seller on the black market, but were apprehended by law enforcement during the exchange of money for a pistol.

The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported that, according to the investigation, in October 2024, a woman died in one of the capital's hospitals due to severe injuries sustained in a car accident.

“The First Deputy Minister, who is an anesthesiologist, was on duty at the medical facility that day. Despite the serious injuries from the accident, the woman's friends believed that the doctor was responsible for her death, which led them to decide to kill him,” they stated.

Investigators have informed the detainees of their suspicion under part 1 of Article 14 and part 2, item 12 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – preparation for intentional murder. The sanctions of the article provide for a penalty of up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

Investigators are petitioning the court for the imposition of a preventive measure in the form of non-alternative detention.
