In the first Grand Slam tournament of the year – the Australian Open – Elina Svitolina achieved her third victory.
The Ukrainian faced the star Italian player Jasmine Paolini in the third round and secured a hard-fought win.
In the first set, Svitolina made a quick break in the third game, but then lost every subsequent game and dropped the set.
The second set went much better – another break in the third game, and then the opponents simply exchanged serves.
The decisive set was absolutely flawless. At one point, Paolini started limping and did not win a single game throughout the set, despite having a couple of break points.
