Trump's advisors are considering a freeze on the war in Ukraine and a 20-year ban on its NATO membership, according to the Wall Street Journal.

However, sources claim that Trump has not yet approved a definitive plan to end the war, stating that he will make his decision at the last minute.
Советники Трампа обсуждают возможность заморозки войны в Украине и запрет на ее вступление в НАТО на 20 лет, сообщает WSJ.

The newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump may propose to Ukraine to freeze the military conflict with Russia without returning territories and to refrain from joining NATO for at least 20 years.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal referencing its informed sources.

According to them, this scenario for ending the war is one of many currently being discussed by Trump's advisors.

It is suggested that after the freezing of hostilities along the entire front line, a demilitarized zone will be declared. However, it is currently unknown who will ensure its security. One of the WSJ sources excluded the possibility of involving U.S. troops or a UN contingent for this purpose.

In turn, in exchange for refraining from joining NATO for the next 20 years, Trump promises to continue supplying Ukraine with weapons.

“We can train soldiers and provide other support, but primarily European countries will handle this. We are not sending American men and women to support peace in Ukraine. And we are not paying for it. Ask the Poles, Germans, English, and French to take care of it,” said one of Trump's team members.

At the same time, WSJ sources emphasized that Trump has yet to approve a specific plan for ending the military conflict in Ukraine.

A former Trump national security advisor noted that he will make the decision personally and at the last moment, so no one can predict what the president will decide.

Meanwhile, WSJ points out that the plan described by the sources for ending the war resembles the resolution of the conflict presented by elected Vice President J.D. Vance in September. According to him, Trump will propose an agreement under which Russia will retain Ukrainian territories, a demilitarized zone will be established along the current front line, and Ukrainian forces will be reinforced in case of renewed conflict with Russia.

Moscow, in turn, will receive guarantees of Ukraine's non-entry into military alliances, including NATO.

As WSJ expects, there are several candidates with different views on Trump's foreign policy influence during his second term. For instance, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is vying for the position of Secretary of Defense, may insist on a settlement that does not appear as a victory for Russia.

However, Richard Grenell, considered a leading candidate for the role of Secretary of State or National Security Advisor, may agree to significant territorial concessions from Ukraine for the sake of a swift end to the war.

Background. Meanwhile, Politico reports that the White House wants to quickly transfer the remaining allocated funds to Ukraine before Trump takes office, as he may cut off military assistance to Kyiv.
