Sybiga urges NATO to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance at the Brussels summit, according to Reuters.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has urged NATO colleagues to extend an invitation to Kyiv to join the Western military alliance during the meeting in Brussels on December 3-4.

According to a letter obtained by Reuters,

“The invitation should not be perceived as an escalation. On the contrary, with a clear understanding that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is inevitable, Russia will lose one of its main arguments for continuing this unjust war,” wrote Sybiha.

It is noted that receiving an invitation to join NATO is part of Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan."

NATO diplomats state that there is currently no consensus among Alliance members regarding an invitation for Ukraine. Any such decision would require the agreement of all 32 member countries of the Alliance.

Official Kyiv understands that there is “still no consensus” on the invitation to join the Alliance, but the letter aimed to send a strong political signal, Vice Prime Minister for NATO Olga Stefanishyna told Reuters. In his letter, Sybiha claimed that the invitation would be the right response to “Russia’s ongoing escalation of the war it initiated, the latest demonstration of which is the involvement of tens of thousands of North Korean troops and using Ukraine as a testing ground for new weapons.”

Diplomats have stated that they do not see any changes in the positions of NATO countries – they are awaiting the stance of the new administration of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
