Kyiv is prepared to assist in ensuring Europe’s energy security by offering its storage facilities for the storage of American liquefied natural gas.
This was stated by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a joint press conference with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who is currently visiting Kyiv.
“For instance, we see enormous potential, especially after the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, in the opportunity to purchase LNG from the United States,” Sybiha said, as quoted by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“You know that Ukraine possesses extremely powerful underground gas storage facilities, and here too we have common points for mutually beneficial cooperation, while simultaneously enhancing Europe’s energy security,” the minister emphasized.
In response to a question about US interest in Ukrainian rare earth metals, Sybiha reminded that the issue of natural resources was included in the “victory plan” presented by President Zelensky in the fall.
According to him, this is a shared strategic interest of Ukraine and its allies, as well as one of the concrete implementations of the concept of “Peace through Strength.”
“Achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine is also a national interest of the United States. The implementation of the concept of ‘peace through strength’ is not just an abstract notion. This concept is filled with specific actions, projects, and solutions,” Sybiha stated.
The Foreign Minister noted that Ukraine's post-war recovery presents significant opportunities for American businesses:
“This will be one of the largest projects of this century and, accordingly, one of the biggest opportunities for our allies.”
Sybiha also reminded about the frozen Russian assets, stating that their utilization, including for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine, is also of interest.
Background. Recently, Trump stated that he wants to receive rare earth metals from Ukraine in exchange for American aid. According to him, Ukraine is ready for such an agreement.
